The Nightly News II

The Nightly News II is an evolution of The Nightly News, a participatory video installation dedicated to the surreal scenes of anxiety, desire, and other possible worlds that fill our heads at night. Currently on view at MSU Broad Art Museum March 4 – May 28, 2023, the installation invites the MSU community to anonymously share the visions that brew below their waking minds and see the nightly dreams of others. The ever-growing video features select responses and speaks to the act of recalling a dream, as if sifting through scraps, its logic just beyond the reach of language and thought.

Themes have emerged: we’re chased, we’re challenged, we’re threatened. We can’t get away, our teeth fall out, and we are strangers in a strange land. Devoted to these intensely private yet universally recognizable symbols delivered to us each night by forces beyond our understanding, The Nightly News shows us that we’re all deeply weird creatures bound together by nerves, fantasy, and the unknown. Created by Candy Chang and James A. Reeves. More info at Broad Art Museum.
