New York City’s Chinatown is rich in fresh produce but impoverished in natural greenery. To arouse the Great Chinatown Tree-Planting Movement, Chang marked select spots on the sidewalks of her neighborhood with temporary spray chalk.

Thanks to PlaNYC, the City enables residents to get involved in tree-planting through the MillionTreesNYC program. Aiming for one million new trees in the next decade, the program gives hope to the leafless sidewalks of Chinatown that yearn to be lined with more than garbage bags. We call those black bushes.
