New York City’s Chinatown was Candy Chang’s home for many years and it is a land of good food, colorful shops, and three trees in a ten-block radius. She used temporary spray chalk to mark spots on the sidewalks where a tree would be nice. Thanks to the progressive ideas of PlaNYC, the City makes it easy for residents to get involved in tree-planting through the new MillionTreesNYC program. Shooting for one million new trees in the next decade, the program gives hope to the leafless sidewalks of Chinatown that yearn to be lined with more than piles of garbage bags.
